On 25th February, 2023, in Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra, India), IMA-PG India received the prestigious SIES SOP STAR award under the category of packaging machinery and systems, thanks to its packaging for multi-vials in one single carton, achieved by working together with Robot manufacturers and carton manufacturing companies. This sustainable solution fosters the pharmaceutical market to deliver medicine in a safer, efficient and cost-effective way, while reducing carbon footprint.

Packing of vials has always been a challenge: there is currently a market trend according to which packing of multi vials in one single carton makes the final package more sustainable. IMA has always been very attentive for what concerns sustainability, as the IMA ZERO project highlights, and this win is a further demonstration of how IMA focuses more and more on reducing its environmental impact, delivering to the market eco-friendly packaging solutions.

In particular, Mahadevan Iyer, Managing Director & Chairman at IMA-PG, states: “Choosing recyclable materials to package, is becoming increasingly important as more and more consumers are taking note of a brand’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly business practices. We, at IMA-PG are doing all possible efforts in developing solutions for our customers which makes their products more sustainable. Our developments work is on for usage of PLA (Polylactic Acid) materials in blister technology. Also, we are working on other aspects of packaging to reduce carbon footprint”.

The A1 cartoning machine for multi-vials is a fully automated system, which can be operated by a single operator and is very easy to use and manage. Among the further advantages that this solution offers there is the possibility to supply faster solutions and a better packing speed than honeycomb with simplified concept, while presenting a compact footprint and a faster changeover for handling different sizes of vials.

This system can be connected with the other packing machines at upstream (Labeller) and down-stream like Check-weigher, Print & check, Bundling and Case-packer which will provide complete line solution from IMA-PG.

About IMA ZERO

IMA ZERO is the evolution of IMA’s commitment to Sustainable Development: its ultimate goal is to minimise environmental impact in industrial manufacturing, while promoting and creating a working and living habitat that always puts people and biodiversity at the centre.

The project is divided into 4 main programs:

  • LOW (Low-Impact Program) refers to the pledge to lower the Group’s impact on the environment, reducing emissions, waste, as well as water and energy consumption, and preserving natural resources.
  • NOP (No-Plastic Program) fosters the employment of eco-friendly materials for the gradual reduction of plastic in packaging produced by IMA machines. To this purpose, IMA OPENLab plays a fundamental role: the Group’s network of technological laboratories and testing areas is dedicated to the research of sustainable materials, technologies and production optimisation processes.
  • E-MOB (Sustainable Mobility Program) includes the Group’s projects about sustainable and electric mobility, for example the implementation of e-charging stations at IMA’s plants to charge hybrid and electric cars during working time. The Company’s biggest investment was the acquisition of IMA AUTOMATION ATOP, an Italian excellence in manufacturing lines for the production of e-traction engines, and the acquisition of IMA AUTOMATION FASP.
  • YOU (Human-Centric Program) concerns the Group’s commitment to putting people at the centre, promoting different projects related to equal opportunities, inclusion, integration, professional development, and anything that can improve working and living conditions.
