Analytical Lab

In the Analytical Lab our experts follow step by step the analysis of the chemical/physical/tribological properties of materials and their applications.

2

Design Lab

All the optimal packaging solutions, conceived and tailor-made according to customer’s requests and/or machine needs, are studied in the Design Lab.

3

Test Area

In the Testing Area material experts and specialised technicians meet to find the perfect combination between flexible films and machine, to obtain the best possible performance.

4

Materials Show Room

Customers visiting our Materials Show Room can get in touch with all the materials covered by the IMA OPENLab, and discover their compositions and performances by means of the Database. The selection provides detailed information about the structure and composition of the packaging materials as well as their performance on the machines.

5

Networking and Technical Support

OPENLab provides technical support to customers on packaging and applications in a diversified way by market, product and machine model.

Staff training on packaging properties and interactions with the machines is part of the services offered for the correct completion of the project at the customer’s premises.

Analytical Lab

Main Activities

In the Analytical Lab our experts follow step by step the analysis of the chemical/physical/tribological properties of materials and their applications.

The main activities are:
• Structure analysis of multilayer materials.
• Analysis of welds/tightness and related packaging anomalies (failure analysis).

• Control and characterisation of the structure and composition of polymers by DSC thermal analysis (differential scanning, calorimetry) and IR spectrophotometry.
• Checking the welding properties of the materials (Hot Tack and Heat Seal).
• Verification of the tensile properties and slipperiness of the packages.
• Verification of tribological properties and interactions between machine parts and packaging.

Design Lab

Think tank space

The packaging must respect certain characteristics in terms of product conservation, machinability, design, maximum performance and waste reduction.

Through cutting-edge digital media and specialised equipment, our technicians analyse the results coming from the laboratory, combining technical analysis and machinability studies.

These are the physical places where the projects designed for our clients take shape and where, at the end of the analysis process, the solutions adopted on the machines and materials are presented.

Test area

Best possible performance

Here, IMA provides its machines, duly redesigned and reconfigured, to carry out the necessary tests and inspections without the need to suspend the production activities at customer’s site.

Pre-testing service for customers

  • Includes materials pre-testing for new or established customers approaching new materials.
  • Materials processability verification, especially about those that may be critical or problematic.
  • Welding experimentation and treatment systems.
  • Testing of new welding systems in terms of geometry of the welding profiles or welding principles (hot bar, ultrasound, induction, etc.) and more performing anti-wear, anti-adhesion, anti-corrosion treatments, etc.

We follow the entire process from assembly, testing, mechanical upgrades, to installation and software testing.

Materials Show Room

Get in touch with all the materials covered by the IMA OPENLab

The aim of the Database is to collect information about those packaging structures that, at market prices, are particularly suitable for certain applications; consequently, it is possible to inform and support the customer to choose the most appropriate solution in order to get the maximum performance level from the machine.

Networking and Technical support

The OPENLab community

The OPENLab community includes numerous Material Experts and a network of selected partners oriented to constantly share technical innovations in the field of sustainable materials and thus contribute to expand the range of solutions available on the market.

OPENLab provides technical support to customers on packaging and applications in a diversified way by market, product and machine model.

Staff training on packaging properties and interactions with the machines is part of the services offered for the correct completion of the project at the customer’s premises.
