IMA Life North America to double its facility based in Tonawanda, USA

May 8^th marked the official construction kick-off of the new IMA Life North America facility, one of six production sites located outside Italy belonging to IMA Life, part of the IMA Group, where automatic equipment and complete lines are manufactured to process liquids and powders in aseptic and non-aseptic environments, plus freeze-drying solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.

A high-profile groundbreaking ceremony was held to announce this additional 7500 square-metre facility which will handle production of high-tech freeze-drying equipment. While a third of the facility to open along Colvin Woods Parkway will be used as office space, two thirds will be reserved for production, supplementing the existing 5500 square-metre facility at 2175 Military Road.

Set to open in autumn 2025, the new operations will require the company to extend its labour force by 70 to handle a significant increase in production capacity. This will unlock over $1 million in the form of tax credit from New York State’s economic development agency in return for this substantial job creation initiative.

A partner of several major pharmaceutical manufacturing companies across the globe, IMA Life is keen to expand its activities in Tonawanda, concentrating on its latest lyophilisation technologies and innovative solutions, driven by the excellence of an expert team of specialist engineers and researchers.

Remarking on the importance of the project, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul underlined the need for investments that would ultimately benefit the health care sector: “IMA Life’s investment in Western New York will help provide the critical equipment needed for pharmaceutical companies to manufacturer life-saving drugs, while also creating the jobs needed to grow and support the health care sector.”

President of IMA Life North America Ernesto Renzi echoed the words of Governor Hochul saying “we look forward to expanding our production capabilities and adding jobs right here in Western New York. The impressive competence of the workforce has allowed us to grow our customer base and expand the company.”
