X-PEN LAB: expanding the X-PEN Standard Solutions range to cover low-output assembly of injectable devices

In line with the integrated approach that defines IMA MED-TECH’s offering, the new X-PEN LAB series has been launched: a range of low-speed machines for the assembly of injectable pens and autoinjectors.

This strategic development completes the existing X-PEN platform, already well established with fully automated solutions up to 160 PPM, by extending it to low-output applications designed for:

• clinical trials and small batches,
• functional testing and validation,
• product development activities and R&D environments.

The introduction of X-PEN LAB strengthens IMA Group’s ability to provide a modular, scalable, and coherent ecosystem, capable of supporting customers throughout every stage of the device lifecycle.

Three models, one platform: flexibility and continuity in the process

The new X-PEN LAB series includes three configurations, each designed to address specific operational needs and output levels:

X-PEN LAB 2–3 PPM

A compact benchtop unit, ideal for lab testing and initial validation activities. Manual loading and unloading ensure ease of use and quick handling.

X-PEN LAB up to 8 PPM
A semi-automatic vertical machine, ideal for multi-variant environments. Designed for testing various product configurations with fast format change and recipe management.

X-PEN LAB 10–20 PPM
A semi-automatic system that combines automated processes with operator intervention. Optimised for clinical batches and small-scale production in highly regulated settings.

All versions are based on the same modular logic shared with the automatic X-PEN line, ensuring:

• high-precision force control systems,
• user-friendly HMI for format and recipe management,
• consistent design for easier scalability and technology transfer.

Synergistic solutions for an integrated offering

As highlighted in the recent PharmaScan edition, the collaboration between IMA MED-TECH and IMA Pharma divisions enables the development of complete solutions for the assembly and packaging of injectable devices.

Thanks to seamless integration with technologies developed by IMA Active, IMA Life, IMA Safe, and IMA EOL, the X-PEN platform can be incorporated into complete production lines, adaptable to any operational context and regulatory requirement.
