IMA Active at the IMCD Pharma Forum 2023

IMA Active is pleased to take part in the IMCD Pharma Forum 2023, which will take place in Cologne (Germany), on March 8-9, 2023.

The IMCD Pharma Forum offers the opportunity to discover latest and future developments in pharmaceuticals. It provides a forum for technical experts, market-leading suppliers and academia representatives to discuss modern drug delivery systems, compaction simulators, troubleshooting, mucoadhesion, solubility enhancement and controlled release. During the round tables sessions, attendees will be able to visit stands for each company to have open discussions with the presenters.

The seminar will focus on innovation in:

• Products (co-processing and novel excipients)
• Processes (Continuous Manufacturing)
• Formulation and patient-friendly dosage forms

On the 8^th of March, Federica Casati, R&D Process Engineer at IMA Active, will held the presentation “Continuous manufacturing: challenges and possibilities”.
The pharmaceutical industry has been undergoing a transition to continuous processes to benefit from the reduced lead time, cost, and footprint and improved quality associated with this new technology. Although significant progress related to continuous manufacturing (CM) is evident and proved by many authors, CM adoption in the pharmaceutical field is still sluggish. The top two hurdles are regulatory uncertainty and high initial costs. There are two main approaches to CM: one more traditional, including the drug product manufacturing and, a more innovative one, which integrates the drug substance manufacturing with the drug product manufacturing. In the framework of this very debated topic, IMA’s way to CM includes both approaches. This presentation gives an overview about how IMA Active has been supporting CM development and seeing a lot of value in the more disruptive approach.
