IMA Active at 46th Controlled Release Society Annual Meeting & Exposition

IMA Active is pleased to take part in the  46th Controlled Release Society Annual Meeting & Exposition, which will be held in Valencia (Spain), on July 21-24 2019.

CRS is a non-profit organization established to promote experts dedicated to the delivery of activities, including delivery scientists, engineers, clinicians, and technical professionals and the science of controlled release. CRS members are creating the future of delivery science and technology through fundamental delivery research, development, regulatory science, and clinical translation.
The 46th Controlled Release Society Annual Meeting & Exposition is one of the premier events in the field of controlled release. This event sports a powerful lineup of presenters including Nobel Laureates, Academic powerhouses and Industry game changers celebrating the progress in the areas of bioengineering, drug delivery, material science, pharmaceutics, consumer and diversified products, and veterinary science. The conference links delivery scientists, engineers, clinicians, and technical professionals who are experts in delivery science and technology to share scientific knowledge covering new technologies and science in the multi-disciplinary delivery.

IMA Active and Colorcon will present a poster on “Minitablets Taste-masking Into A New Drum Specifically Designed For Multiparticulate Oral Solid Dosage Form” (Poster n° P 131 – Poster Session 1).

Minitablets are flat or slightly curved tablets with a diameter ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 mm. They are usually filled into a capsule, occasionally compressed into larger tablets, or sometimes placed in sachets for easy administration. Used as a single or multiple-unit oral dosage forms, minitablets, thanks to smaller dimension compared to normal tablets, can pass through the stomach at a more even rate: this is very useful because drug concentration in blood can be easily reproduced.
Additionally, this pharmaceutical forms can be coated and combined to achieve various releases with one formulation: diseases that require multi-target therapy approach can be treated more successfully. Therefore, they have potential as patient-friendly drug delivery system for targeted populations (e.g. elderly and children). In pediatric field, taste masking becomes mandatory especially if achieved by polymer that provides easy swallowing.
The aim of this investigation was the evaluation of coating process feasibility into a pilot and production scale coater for minitablets taste-masking.
