Sustainability on Coffee

Creating value throughout the coffee chain. Together.

Minimizing enviromental impact in industrial coffee manufacturing

Sustainability is a core pillar of IMA Group’s mission investing in technologies that improve the quality of life, reduce waste and demonstrate greater respect for the environment. IMA Coffee is committed to this approach and contributes through many projects with a view to creating sustainable products, production processes and services, benefitting from a renewed logic of sustainability and from the awareness that our commitment today will help to shape the world of coffee tomorrow.

Sustainable practices are always on the go and cooperation is increasingly important to reach the ultimate goal: minimising environmental impact in industrial coffee manufacturing.

Emissions

The roasting and coffee processing side of the business is committed to increasing sustainable practices to reduce emissions and develop innovative low-impact technologies.

Materials

Through the research and testing of alternative processes and materials, together with our partners, we encourage plastic-free and sustainable, compostable or biodegradable packaging solutions.

Energy and Resources

The use of ultrasonic technology, the recycling of inert gas and fuel needed for the process preserve the resources and maximise energy efficiency. That’s how we cultivate the concept of saving.

OpenLab is the IMA Group’s network of technological laboratories and testing area, dedicated to the research on sustainable materials, technologies and production optimization processes.

Thanks to the implementation of the most modern digital infrastructures, together with think tank spaces, environments dedicated to the generation of ideas and the prototyping of materials, we aim to build a connection between knowledge and skills coming from machines, packaging manufacturing and customers.

IMA BFB overwrapping machines go Plastic-free

Although the use of paper is nothing new at IMA BFB – since we already have experience of paper handling on our over wrappers – developing new applications that aim at minimising environmental impact is a tough yet exciting challenge.

NatureWorks and IMA Announce New Strategic Partnership

Partnership will accelerate the availability of a turn-key solution for K-Cup compatible compostable coffee pods in North America with excellent performance in converting, assembly, filling, brewing, and taste.

Roasting Emission Treatment

The Heat Recovery System cleans up the roasting air from previous roasting processes. It allows decreasing in concentration of organic substances. Therefore, it has substantial benefits on energy savings and limited impact on the environment in terms of CO2 and VOC emission.
