IMA Teknoweb is finalist for the Sustainability Awards at the BCH's "RIGHT" Hygiene Conference.

  • IMA Teknoweb, with its innovative plastic-free solutions for wet wipes manufacturing, has been selected among the finalists for the Sustainability Awards at the BCH’s “RIGHT” Hygiene Conference. This competition awards those companies that developed important sustainability projects in the Indian or global market.
  • IMA Teknoweb’s new solutions for wet wipes are part of IMA ZERO’s No-Plastic Program (NOP). They tackle the pressing issue of plastic pollution, while offering eco-friendly alternatives with no compromise on quality nor performance.

IMA Teknoweb has been selected among the finalists for the Sustainability Awards at the “RIGHT” Hygiene Conference, organized by BCH in New Delhi, a competition that honours those companies that have developed important sustainability projects for the Indian market or worldwide.

IMA Teknoweb, leader in wipes converting, offers innovative solutions for personal care, household, and industrial sectors. The company recognizes and adapts to the diverse needs of consumers, reflected in the various forms and applications of wipes, which have evolved over the years to include disinfectant wipes, cosmetic masks, medical bathing gloves, and Moist Toilet Tissue (MTT) for the Away From Home market.

In particular, IMA Teknoweb acknowledges the environmental challenges posed by traditional wet wipes, often resulting from improper disposal practices. To mitigate these challenges, the company collaborated extensively with fabric and fiber manufacturers worldwide to identify environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional materials such as PP, PE, or viscose.

These activities must be seen as part of a wider goal stated by the corporate sustainability project named IMA ZERO, which embodies the Group’s commitment to environmental and social matters. The ultimate goal of this project is minimising environmental impact in industrial manufacturing, and promoting and creating a working and living habitat that places people and biodiversity at the centre. Among the IMA ZERO project, the initiative named No-Plastic Programme (NOP), is specifically aimed to encourage and to maximize the use of alternative materials to plastic, such as biodegradable or compostable ones.

The innovative process allows processing fabric which is 100% plastic-free, recyclable, and, when necessary, dispersible. Furthermore, IMA Teknoweb advocates for recyclable mono-PE film primary packaging, which improves quality of reusable polymer. Despite the challenges associated with these eco materials, including lower wet strength and higher heat sensitivity, IMA Teknoweb developed cutting-edge technology to reduce friction during folding process and actively control fabric tension to ensure eco-friendly materials can be processed at the same efficiency and reliability as in traditional converting.

This means IMA’s converting machines can manufacture plastic free wipes (20 or 25 lane) at the stunning speed of 300 stacks per minute and pack them by a single wrapper at up to 250 packs per minute. No other technology can overpass this performance, particularly with plastic – free fabric and set a new standard for the wet wipes industry.

About IMA ZERO

IMA ZERO is the evolution of IMA’s commitment to Sustainable Development: its ultimate goal is to minimise environmental impact in industrial manufacturing, while promoting and creating a working and living habitat that always puts people and biodiversity at the centre.

The project is declined into 4 main programs:

  • LOW (Low-Impact Program) refers to the pledge to lower the Group’s impact on the environment, reducing emissions, waste, as well as water and energy consumption, and preserving natural resources.
  • NOP (No-Plastic Program) fosters the employment of eco-friendly materials for the gradual reduction of plastic in packaging produced by IMA machines. To this purpose, IMA OPENLab plays a fundamental role: the Group’s network of technological laboratories and testing areas is dedicated to the research of sustainable materials, technologies and production optimisation processes.
  • E-MOB (Sustainable Mobility Program) includes the Group’s projects about sustainable and electric mobility, for example the implementation of e-charging stations at IMA’s plants to charge hybrid and electric cars during working time. The Company’s biggest investment was the acquisition of IMA AUTOMATION ATOP, an Italian excellence in manufacturing lines for the production of e-traction engines, and the acquisition of IMA AUTOMATION FASP.
  • YOU (Human-Centric Program) concerns the Group’s commitment to putting people at the centre, promoting different projects related to equal opportunities, inclusion, integration, professional development, and anything that can improve working and living conditions.
