IMA Coffee at the AMI Single-Serve Capsule event in Boston, March 19-20, 2024, together with NatureWorks

 

On March 20th, Alessandro Nobili, Head of Product and Project Management IMA Coffee Division and Flavio Di Marcotullio, Global Industry Manager at NatureWorks Spain will discuss how IMA and NatureWorks, in response to market demand, developed a turn-key compostable coffee capsule together.  

 

The AMI Single-Serve Capsule event, to be held March 19-20 in Boston, USA, will be the ideal venue to share developments in the strategic partnership involving IMA and NatureWorks since 2021 with the goal of accelerating  the availability in North American market of high performing coffee pods K-Cup compatible, made with compostable material based on NatureWorks’ low-carbon Ingeo™️ PLA

Walkthrough the technical properties of the new compostable solutions including how the filter, lidding and rigid capsule work together delivering the proper capsule handling and sealing, Alessandro Nobili will be sharing the analyses have been performed at IMA Open Lab, resulted in final validation tests of NatureWorks’ low-carbon Ingeo™️ compostable pods on IMA coffee capsule filling and sealing machines.  

Compatibility testing on coffee rigid capsule, filter, and top lid films have been performed at IMA Open Lab with the precise aim to identify and achieve optimum material sealing parameters and limits as well as a suitable set up of IMA packaging machineries to handle the pods successfully.  

Roasters and brands will find value in the discussion, taking advantages from these learnings as they look to adopt compostable capsules in response to growing demand from consumers for more sustainable capsule options without compromising the shelf life or taste and aroma of the brewed coffee.
