Médecins Sans Frontières in South Sudan

40 thousand people are starving, while a quarter of the population is in urgent need of food support. For the last three years, the world’s youngest nation has been shaken by a civil war that has already claimed tens of thousands of deaths and millions of refugees.

Nearly 2 million people were forced to flee their homes, many of them have been displaced within the country and are living precariously, while almost 500,000 people have sought refuge in neighbouring countries.

The objective of this project is to provide free health care to reduce mortality, with a priority focus on maternal and child health and malnutrition.

IMA’s contribution helps to support actions such as:

  • the purchase of vaccines against measles, thus ensuring the vaccination of more than 70,600 children;
  • the distribution of 1,200 kits to ensure safe childbirth for as many women and save the lives of their children;
  • the delivery of comprehensive treatments to 560 severely malnourished children.
