Brazil is regarded as one of the fastest growing economies and is the fifth largest and most populated country in the world. Brazil is the second largest pharmaceutical market in Latin America and holds a lot of opportunities for new and existing companies in this area.

can boast a long standing presence in the Brazilian market and, with this in mind, intends to further consolidate its market penetration.

At FCE Pharma 2010 the IMA Group exhibited new solutions for the processing and packaging of pharmaceutical products.

The staff of IMAUTOMATICHE DO BRASIL, our subsidiary which is located in São Paulo and covers the whole Brazilian pharmaceutical market, was very pleased  to illustrate the innovative features of our wide range of machines and complete lines that meet all the requirements of the pharmaceutical industry as well as the forthcoming developments of the IMA Group in Brazil.

IMA ACTIVE Division
exhibited the KILIAN SYNTHESIS 500, a mid-size tablet press machine designed for easy operation and cleaning. All components have been designed with smooth surface and can be easily cleaned. The die table can be taken out without removing the punches, while the force feeder and the tablet discharge are hinged and can swing out for easy access and cleaning. Since the mechanical and the compression areas are completely separated and sealed off, there is no risk of product penetration into the lower compartment of the machine: this means no risks of cross contamination, less maintenance operations and 100% 'black spot' free tablets. With the state of the art quality control system 'ViCon' an automatic machine set up is possible. The SYNTHESIS 500 reaches a production speed of 360,000 tablets/hour.

IMA LIFE exhibited  the new SENSITIVE A400 TE 3T, a labelling machine featuring the application of labels on three of the carton's sides. In actual fact, this machine is capable of applying two tamper-evident security seals on the two sides of the carton and an optical label on the top side. The advantage of this machine, many of which have already been successfully inserted in production lines, is its compact and ergonomic design that allows it to be easily accessed and quickly cleaned. Among its features, do not forget the safe transferal of the carton, the expulsion of the non-conforming product and the tool-free size changeover. The machine on show is equipped with ink jet printer and a control video camera in compliance  with the Track & Trace requirements. The SENSITIVE A400 TE 3T reaches a production speed of up to 400 cartons/minute.

Also on show by IMA LIFE Freeze Drying Solutions, the innovative freeze-dryer LYOFAST 10. Pre-engineering results in time and cost benefits as well as a wide range of standard options ensure sufficient flexibility over a broad range of configurations. By constructing from a series of standard modules, IMA LIFE is able to compress project schedules and reduce lead times-even with large capacity equipment. Compared to a custom-built lyophiliser, the lead time for LYOFAST is reduced by up to 50%. This provides the customer with a competitive edge by reducing the time to market.

IMA SAFE exhibited the C80R, a medium speed blister machine characterised by superior performance and flexibility, capable of processing up to 600 blisters/minute. The C80 is a leading machine world-wide in the medium speed range thanks to its continuous running concept. The blister machine is able to handle a wide variety of packaging materials and the speed remains high working with wide blisters. Size changeover and machine cleaning have been given particular attention. Being very operator-friendly, one operator only is needed for the whole line. The C80 blister machine is available in its stand-alone version or in line with the A81 cartoner. It can also be linked with all existing IMA SAFE cartoners as well as with the wallet machines available on the market.

IMA SAFE CO.MA.DI.S. exhibited the C960, a compact and innovative tube filling machine suitable to fill and seal – by hot air technology - plastic and laminate tubes. The machine is marked by quick change of parts in contact with product and easy changeover. “Quintessence” of reliability, ergonomy and ease of use, this model is evidence of CO.MA.DI.S. incomparable capability in manufacturing effective tube fillers, with accurate finishing and brilliant performances. In compact and simplified size, it reconfigures the contents of top class models, using many components from them: an excellent “entry level” in advanced automatic machines. The C960 reaches a mechanical speed of 60 tubes/minute.

Finally on show by IMA SAFE LINE, the CP18, an automatic case-packing machine for insertion of single and bunched boxes in standard size, pre-glued cases or trays. The machine is extremely accessible and compact thanks to its cantilever structure. The carton magazine is horizontal for easier loading. A perfectly square case during filling is assured by pickup and forced opening arms with suction cups. The carton can be sealed with adhesive tape and/or with hot-melt or vinyl glue. Change-over is performed in just a few minutes without tools and adjustments are made with digital displays. The CP18 reaches a production speed of 14 cartons/minute.
