IMA Active Division
on show at AAPS 2009
Multiparticulates are becoming more and more a popular delivery technology, because of the many advantages they offer in terms of potential for controlled release profiles, dosing flexibility and combination of different actives. Additionally, multiparticulates demonstrate a more consistent in-vivo drug release than tablets. Among the different types of multiparticulates, a growing interest is placed on minitablets, as the production process is easier, less expensive, and potentially has less scale-up issues, when compared to pellet layering or extrusion and spheronization.
IMA ACTIVE Division can offer a complete range of machine for the manufacture of multiparticulates: from granulation to tableting with multi-tip tooling, from coating and/or bead layering to final encapsulation.
A compact benchtop high shear granulator dryer for R&D purposes. It is used to process very small batch sizes (200 g-1000 g) carrying out the entire process, from granulation to the drying of granules, in one contained bowl. This means that contact between product, operator and environment is minimized.
The Roto Lab is suitable for the development of potent products and allows total batch reproducibility, ensuring high product yields. The tilting system of the bowl ensures gentle handling of granules during vacuum drying to prevent them breaking. The gas stripping system (GA.ST.), by injecting an inert gas through the product mass, enhances the evaporation rate. The machine guarantees a reliable monitoring of granulation and drying, an accurate detection of the process end-point and very easy cleaning operations.
The ideal solution for R&D applications due to its flexibility and multi product dosing possibility: the machine can be fitted with powder and pellet dosing units, as well as tablet/microtablet and liquid dosing units. The machine is simple to use due to its operator friendly interface with touch screen, which allows easy operation and control of processing parameters. The models available are the Zanasi Lab 8 and 16 capable of reaching speeds of 8,000 and 16,000 capsules/hour. The machine on show will be equipped with the minitablet dosing unit.
GS EVOLUTION 30
A solid wall pan for film and sugar coating of tablets, pellets and microgranules. The equipment features a special ventilation system with the capability to interchange the inlet/outlet air connections to obtain two different air flow directions, allowing both immersed air blowing or exhausting paddles to be fitted on the same machine according to the process. This machine is particularly designed for highly automated coating installations and can be configured to satisfy containment requirements for processing high potent products. Additionally it can be supplied in two different versions: normal or spiralled pan for automatic high efficiency product and water discharge. The interchangeable drum offers great flexibilty allowing a wide range of batches to be handled. The GS Evolution can be equipped with an automatic and validatable Clean In Place System.
IMA ACTIVE Division offers a complete range of machines for the process and production of solid dose products: granulation equipment, tablet press machines manufactured both by IMA and by KILIAN, capsule filling machines, coating systems, checkweighers for capsules and tablets as well as powder handling and washing systems manufactured by ZANCHETTA.
IMA LIFE offers machines for washing and sterilising pharmaceutical vials, filling and stoppering machines for aseptic environments, filling and closing machines for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, microdosing machines for aseptic powder filling and, thanks to IMA EDWARDS*, freeze-drying machinery. IMA LIFE also offers labellers, blowing machines, depackers and traying machines. IMA LIFE has recently acquired PHARMASIENA, an Italian company that specialise in the design and production of filling machines for ampoules and syringes in aseptic environments.
IMA SAFE is the only manufacturer that offers complete primary and secondary packaging line solutions to the pharmaceutical, toiletry, cosmetic and food industries. Blister machines have speed ranges from low to super high speed (1,300 blisters/minute). Low speed machines are also manufactured by the subsidiary PRECISION GEARS (India). Tablet counting machine production includes IMA SAFE NOVA (USA) and IMA SAFE SWIFTPACK (UK). Tube fillers are manufactured by IMA SAFE CO.MA.DI.S., while horizontal and vertical cartoners are manufactured by IMA SAFE. IMA SAFE LINE offers a complete range of end of line equipment which includes over-wrapping, shrink-wrapping, case packing and palletizing solutions.
